About us

Welcome to

Southview Farm and Nursery

Here's a bit about us...

In 1989, Philip and his wife Rebecca purchased Southview which was a cottage and a four acre ploughed field. They initially started out using the land for growing potatoes and runner beans and then began growing bedding plants in a small greenhouse and polytunnel. This was the beginning of Southview Nurseries

1990

The following year the land at Southview was used to grow Christmas trees alongside vegetables and has had a tree plantation ever since, meaning we have over 30 years of growing experience.

Philip and Rebecca had two children who both grew up and enjoyed taking part in the changing nursery seasons, even helping pot up plants from as young an age as 5. Eventually, more plant growing space for plants was needed so two greenhouses were erected followed by a larger polytunnel. Plants have been grown here ever since for both commercial contracts and retail from the gate. Rebecca plays a key role in the nursery and has developed an excellent eye for creating beautiful hanging baskets and takes time to share her substantial knowledge with customers. Out of the main nursery seasons, Philip (who has a background in agriculture and horticulture) planted and maintained countless orchards across the country for the cider making industry.

2011

In 2011 Southview became the home of a pedigree herd of Sussex cattle and this additional enterprise meant Southview Farm was born. Philip has a great interest in the breeding and genetics of this herd and is a member of the Sussex Cattle Society. The herd is small with a total of 40-50 head of cattle, grazing across approx 50 acres of pasture near the farm.

2016

Anthony has always shown a keen interest in all aspects of the business and decided to study Agriculture at Harper Adams University. After a four year course, he graduated and came home to join the business in 2016 with his wife Susie. Susie was brought up in a farming village in Cambridgeshire and after studying at university, qualified as a paediatric nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital. After moving to Wiltshire with Anthony in 2016, she decided to put her focus into Southview, dedicating her time to supporting Anthony in expanding the business.

To expand the business an additional enterprise of free range laying hens was added and a further 10 acres of joining land was taken on to accommodate this new project. Over the next four years this enterprise has grown from an initial flock of 250 birds to approximately 3000-4000 birds.

2017

In 2017 a new cattle building was erected with solar panels installed on the roof. The solar provides power to the entire Southview site including the chicken sheds, packing room and also to our two private homes.

2019

In 2019 we purchased an electric van which does all our deliveries and is charged using energy created by the solar panels.

2020

In 2020 Anthony and Susie welcomed the next generation to Southview when baby Harry arrived…now three generations live here.

2022 – The welcome addition of Louis to our family
